Posse at Broad
This past weekend the crew finally took a trip to check out LA’s newest museum, The Broad and I must say that it didn’t disappoint. Don’t let the huge line discourage you, it moves fast (about 30 to 40 mins). Once in, we spent about three hours wandering the museum’s two floors of gallery space.
The Broad houses 2000+ works on display and in the on-site vault. The collection include works by artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Barbara Kruger, Cy Twombly, Ed Ruscha, Kara Walker, Christopher Wool, Jeff Koons, Joseph Beuys, Jasper Johns, Cindy Sherman, Robert Rauschenberg, and more.
The Broad is the brainchild of philanthropists Eli Broad and his wife Edythe. The Broads have been building their world-renowned art collection over the past 50 years. After being turned down by numerous museums to host the Broad’s entire collection, Eli said fuck it “I’ll build my own museum and it will be free”…He didn’t really say that but he should have.
The stunning building was designed by world-renowned architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler. The Broads spent about $140 million on the 120,000 square-foot building.
Oh yeah the Broads also have about 8,000 works on loans to over 500 museum and galleries all around the world.
Shouts out to Esbe, Cyril, Chris, Drew and especially DJ Daeta for snapping most of the pics. And pete for letting us crash.
